Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois
My husband and I share a sewer line with our neighbor. We have had trouble over the years, and now the neighbor is saying that we should get a seperate line. Our house was built first and the line originates at the house. The neighbor is saying the line is his because it crosses his property.

The line belongs to the city. The city or municipality has an easement (right of way) under everyone's property for sewer lines and utilities.

The sewer line FROM YOUR HOME to the city sewer belongs to you. It is PROBABLE that you have an easement to run your line from your home to connect with the municipal "main". Have you contacted someone from the municipality to discuss this problem with them?
