Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

Lease Changing

Found an apartment that would do short term leases since I was going to school for 15 month, basically the selling point for me. Living there since August. Was given a sheet at the beginning of Febuary to renew the lease with the option of a short term which I would need for next year. When I went to turn in the form they said they are doing away with short term leases and I would either have to move or sign a year lease. Outside of contacting the Better Business Bureau, does anyone have any other suggestions. Is there any legal action I could take?

Re: Lease Changing

The proper way for them to do this is to allow existing tenants who moved in because of their poicy to continue and not do short terms with new tenants. The problem you face is that the cost in court of preseting your case is probably too high.

I suggest that you tell them the situation and that they should phase in the policy. Unless they are a member of the BBB, they wont care.
