Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

I just signed my lease yesterday to a 1st floor apartment that is ground level, If i request that my landlord install Window Security (bars, guards, or fence) to help prevent break-ins, crime, etc what would be the landlords reponse? I feel like this is a fair request.

You are too late. You can always ask, but you will probably be refused and you have no recourse. You should have made what you wanted a condition of signing the lease.

"Too soon we get old and too late smart."

When there is an "old saying" you know it's a common problem.
