Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Illinois

Does Illinois have an anti-discrimination law that would pre-empt Federal Law. My information states that in states or localities where there is an antidiscrimination law and an agency authorized to grant or seek relief, a charge must be presented to that state or local agency. Does Illinois have such an agency and does Peoria, Illinois have one.

Yes, there are local agencies that you must go through first in order to preserve a claim. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the Department of Labor. Contact these organisations and they will let you know what steps you must take. Be careful, there are strict time limitations. Contact them immediately to make sure you find out your time limits. After they go through their process, they will give you a right to sue letter which allows you to take your case to federal court. An attorney could help you ascertain very quickly whether you have a case and your time limits to file with the relevant organisations.
