Legal Question in Social Security Law in Illinois

My brother is currently applying for SSI. He and I share a living residence. Am I responsible to give my personal information to the social security office- such as my social security number- or should they only be seeking his information since he is the one applying for the benefits. I do not wish to give out any of my own personal information if I do not have to, since I am not the one applying. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

To qualify for SSI your brother's resurces cannot exceed a certain amount. For example from the SSA deems a portion of the resources of a spouse, parent, parents spouse, sponsor of an alien or sponsors spouse as belonging to the person who files for SSI. You mentioned you are the brother so I don't see how or why your resources would be considered. If a child under age 18 lives with one parent, $2,000 of the parent's total countable resources does not count. If the child lives with 2 parents, $3,000 does not count. We count amounts over the parents limits as part of the child's $2,000 resource limit. It's possible that SSI is looking at your resources because you share a portion of thos with your brother? I'm happy to help if you would like to email or call me.
