Do you have to sign?

I recently recieved a speeding ticket in Illinois, was going to mail in the moey when I noticed I was supposed to sign the ticket. Does it make any differnce that it is not signed saying I agree to the terms of the ticket?

Yes, if you are determined to make the mistake of just paying the ticket, then you must sign the "court communication" copy and send it in with your payment. This constitutes your plea of guilty. This method will result in a conviction being entered on your record, something which you should avoid if at all possible. I strongly suggest that you hire an attorney to handle the ticket for you so that you may avoid the conviction.

It doesn't necessarily mean you get away with the ticket - it just means you can choose to defend it in court.
