Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois
In the state of Illinois, if cited for a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident with an injury involved it is mandatory to appear in court. What takes place at that court hearing if you are not contesting the ticket?

Your ticket should outline your options: pay a fine by mail, show up, etc. If it says you must appear, then your failure to do so can have many negative consequences. What are you trying to avoid?
On a ticket of this nature you should hire an attorey to represent you. If you fail to show up in many cases the court will enter judgment against you and issue a warrant for your arrest. The conviction itself can have very serious negative consequences for your diving privilege and also possibly in any civil suit brought by anyone injured or suffering damge in the accident. An attorey may be able to negotiate a plea bargain that will avoid these negative consequences. Good luck.
