Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois
How can I get more time?
I was arrested for driving on a suspended license in Illinois. I consulted an attorney but didn't commit to hire him until I knew I could pay for it. Meanwhile, I went to court and entered a preliminary plea of not guilty and some sort of pre-trial was set up for Jan. 2. I will be able to pay for the attorney soon, but not that soon. How can I get more time, even just a couple of weeks, so that I can pay a lawyer to represent me?

Request a continuance and explain to the judge your situation. It is up to the judge whether to grant a continuance.
