Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

My parents divorced 1 month before my dad died when my brother and I were 7 and 8. My grandmother was administrator of his estate, of which there was nothing. My mom had spousal insurance through her job on him which became payable but she didn't think it was. She let it go because of the issues with my grandmother. Well, now the life insurance money shows up yesterday on illinois cashdash. My brother and I are now 18 and 19. Are we entitled to the benefits without our grandmother's involvement? She has never been a part of our lives until a few months ago.
