Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana
A television show called ??????? (which airs on ****major***Channel) will be airing an hour episode docu drama including me and my family. I was interviewed for my participation in the docu drama and agreed to $500.00. My sister, brother and mother all were given a similar amount. The dramatic portion of the 1 hour episode is now being edited with the interviews with my family. The producers have now asked me for a few of my wedding photos and also have some of my childhood photos which they would like to use for their production of me and my family's true story and account of our lives. They have sent me a document which has a dollar amount blank for a license fee for release of these materials and license to use. I do not know what to charge for a license fee. I do not know if I should charge $50 or $500. What is a reasonable fee for usage of private wedding photos on a 1 hour episode of a major Channel on a popular program?

That is going to depend on the value of the photo to the piece. It is routine for them to obtain background photos for a piece. Highly unlikely you're going to get $500 if all they are willing to give you is $500 for the interview. Best way to proceed is insert a number. If they don't like it, they will let you know. Remember the old rule: Everything is negotiable. Just don't be greedy. They have a point beyond which, they are unwilling to go. It is that way in any case. One never knows. I had a client in a wrongful death case who ordered me to settle the case for $300,000.00. I did not respond to him. I settled it for seven figures. He balked when I asked him if he minded if I kept the excess over $300K that he didn't seem to want. :) (I was making a point to him of trying to tell me how to do my job.) Long story short, you will never know unless you ask. Put a price on something as to what YOU value that thing. Then, ask yourself whether you'd settle for less. If so, how much less. Most people make the mistake of asking what they want. Greed gets in the way. Instead, find out where you are truly at, then start out at a price that is higher than where your "line" is drawn. How that helps.
