Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana
statute of limitations
I am receiving threatening letters and many phone calls regarding a debt I occurred in 1985. it remained on my credit report for over 7 years. It has been bought by at least 3 agencies trying to collect it, (no judgement was ever granted). I informed them all that I no longer owed it, and all quit trying......except the one mentioned above, they say:... they are suing me, they are reporting a 20 year old debt once again to my credit report, and they are offering me reduced amount to pay.
Do I still owe this debt?, can they sue me, and can they report it once again to the credit bureau? Thank you for you help

Re: statute of limitations
Like many credit collection agents, this one is lying. They will not file a lawsuit to collect a twenty year old debt. The limitation of action is not more than six years. Do a Google search for
"Fair Debt Collection Practices" for ideas about the various remedies you have against these rude barbarians.
