Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Indiana

My name is Matt. My wife and I recently fired our babysitter. At the begining of the new year, she sent us a letter with a list of new rules and expectations. One of them being, paying her even when she doesn't watching our son. We found a new sitter. The last week the old sitter watched our son, she only watched him one day. She was given notice the on that Monday that she would not be needed on the following day. I only paid her for the one day she did watch him. Upon paying her for that one day, I informed her we would not be bringing our son anymore. She is insisting we pay her for the day we cancelled on her. We did not have a contract or any other form of written agreement with this person. Do I have legal the right not to pay her for the day she did not watch our son? Does she have the legal right to attempt to collect, even though there is no legal contract?

This sounds like much ado about nothing. Be the bigger person and pay her for the day that she didn't watch your son if you had already scheduled that day and took up her time.
