Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Indiana

My niece borrowed my car. While she had it her boyfriend was arrested. She gave the police the keys to my car when they asked so they could search it. While searching the car they found my daughters prescription, which is a controlled substance. The police impounded the car and are claiming it as forefeited. The police will not return it and my niece thinks she doesn't owe me for the car. I believe she should have to replace the vehicle. Is she liable for my lost car and my things within the car that they will not return to me?

An attorney can probably help to compel return of the car and most items in it to you if the facts as stated are true. Find one in your community who can help you. You will be better off doing that than suing your niece.
