Non-leased tenant rights?

I've been living with a friend in an apartment for about 18 months. His longtime girlfriend's lease is coming to an end and I'm fearing if he'll ask her to move in and me out.

Now I'm not on the lease but I have been paying half the rent for the 18 months here via check. Could I just be kicked out? Do I have a window after I'm told to leave? Can I be ''evicted'' by my friend on the lease at all?

It hasn't happened nor am I sure it will, just checking my bases.
