Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana

We have a fence that connects to our neighbor's fence. He is replacing his fence (including the part that connects our yards which is in his yard). He wants us to pay 50% of the fence that connects our yards; however, we dont' feel like we should have to do this since it is in his yard. Is there a law that states this? What if we can't afford this?

If either of you is a farmer and this is agricultural land, you would have a reponsibility to contribute.
