Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana

My ex land lord is keeping my deposit and asking me to pay $1400.00 in damages to the carpet. He said he wants to replace the carpet. I live there 3 years and the carpet did not have any stains, tears, and was professionally cleaned 3 months ago. I just did not vacume it when I left because they had already taken my vacume cleaner. Mt deposit was $300.00 and the rent was $1325.00 per month which was paid every month on time. The landlord wants to keep the deposit and change me $1400.00 to replace the carpets. I do not have pictures when I left, but have pictures all throughout the time I lived there showing how nice and neat I kept the home. This landlord is in fiancial trouble and I think he is gonna take it out on me because I am a single mom and have nobody to help me fight him. I have had breast cancer and don't need this worry.

I would recommend that you go to legal aid to someone who does some pro bono work to protect your situation. If your landlord goes to court, you have to appear and answer.
