Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Indiana
School Corp Negligence
My mother is a nurse at a public middle school. She was recently attacked by a student who had come into her office, locked the door behind him, physically restrained her by the throat, and attempted to rape her.
My mom has friends in the school corp's admin office who informed her that there is documented evidence of this student having done this multiple times in the past, has been psychiatrically diagnosed as extremely ''high-risk'', and is an attempted rapist. These supposed documents state that the student was to be escorted by security at all times between classes and when entering/leaving the building.
While it seems fairly obvious that the school corp was negligent in taking seriously these documented warnings and professional requests for the safety of its employees, my mother cannot find an attorney willing to represent her. My assumption is that most attorneys are simply afraid to battle with such a powerful public enterprise as the citys school system. Meanwhile, however, my mother is traumatized and I am beginning to get furious as more incriminating information regarding this student leaks. Somebody must be held accountable for this and it is not my mother. Can anybody help? Thank you.
