Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa
I married a man that was divorced and has a child from a previous marriage. He is to have a life insurance policy to cover child support, but I don't think he has did it. Would I be responsible for paying child support if he dies? He is added on to my life insurance policy. Would that money go to the ex-wife, or would I receive to take care of bills, and our child? Also we are looking to purchase a home within the next year-would I be protected?

You would not be responsible for his child support from a previous marriage. If you are the beneficiary of a life insurance policy he has taken out it is quite possible that the proceeds would be considered part of his estate and subject to any existing debts he might owe. Check with your insurance carrier.
If you buy a house jointly on the mortgage you are co owners and if he dies, his share would be part of his estate and subject to any existing debts or obligations.
