Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Iowa

Can I sue the man who raped me?

I was raped last Oct.. Since then I have been very

ill, it has taken it's toll on me physically, i've been unable to work. In Iowa there is a program called

crime victim's assistance. I was approved, yet unable to receive compensation for lost wages because I was

not working at the time, although I was about to return

to work. Medical records confirm a physical deterioration since this happened. I want to hold this man responsible for his behavior. Due to a lack of integrity in the local police, I was unable to criminally prosecute. Thank you for any input.

Re: Can I sue the man who raped me?

This is a terribly personal and sensitive question. A civil remedy may exist for negligent security or premises liability against the owner or operator of the place where you were attacked. The particular facts will dictate what legal action may be taken. Suing the perpetrator will unlikely result in any substantial justice. You should consult with a knowledgable attorney. I hope this is of some assistance.
