Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Iowa

i live in iowa. my and my now x boyfriend rented a place last month togehter. i pd the rent and deposit on the 1st month this moth i pd half. all the bills are in my name. he has gotten violent with me and i am scared of him, the law i called i had called to late and there was nothing they could do they said they cant make either one of us leave. he has been getting very very verbal violent with me and the kids. i have a recorder recording at this time to how he is acting. he threatens me and i have to stay in my room untill he is ready to be in there then i have to go into another room unless he corners me and wont let me out of that room or area. how can i get him out of this place off the lease. or do i have to wait untill i get beat on agian which he is good at hitting me and doing things to me where i cant prove. i cant afford to move and he has family and friends here which i moved here cause of him. i had over $6,000 about a month ago and now i am broke living pay check to paycheck.please help
