Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Iowa
My husband and I own a house together but only I have a lien against it. Is it illegal for me to deed the house in just his name and he sells it to purchase another less expensive home that we will both occupy?

I am guessing mean that someone else has a lien against the real estate, since you cannot lien your own property. Conveying your interest in the real estate will not extinguish the lien. It is possible the lien did not attach if this is something in the nature of a judgment lien. You should consult with a real estate attorney to discuss the specifics.
