how do i find out if there is a lien on my property

To check on any liens on your property, you need to go to the County Clerk's office and look at the records there. Some counties have such information on line, but most do not.

And many times, if you are nice ;-), one of the deputy clerks will help you find what you need.

Assuming you are talking about real property (land), you will find records of liens in your County Clerk's office. You may need to look in several places in the clerk's office (depending on the county). If you can find a helpful deputy clerk, you should be in good hands.
