Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

Amount of Child Support

I am a divorced father of two and I pay child support. I go to college and work full time pursuing an engineering degree. My ex-wife has a great paying job, has rental houses and owns a business with her present husband. When my child support amount is figured (by the KY scale) does the amount of her income through her job salary and businesses determine in any way the amount that I am suppossed to pay? Especially since half of the other businesses are in her name. Or do they only go by the amount that I make per year? She makes a lot of money and I barely get by and she keeps raising my child support. Please explain the payment amount determination to me. Thanks

Re: Amount of Child Support

Child support calculations in Kentucky do take into consideration the earnings of both parents, and the proportion that each earns in relation to the whole. The costs of health insurance for the children is also factored into the equation.

Re: Amount of Child Support

The Ky child support tables are based on the concept that both parents are responsible for the costs of childraising.

Subject to specific points which would vary from case to case, the law would add your income and hers to obtain a total figure.

Each of you would then be responsible for your pro-rated share. Example: you make $40k, she makes $60k; you would be responsible

for 40% of the total support obligation.
