Getting Gardianship of an adult
What steps do I need to take to get legal gardianship of my 38 year old son that is extremely suicidal, addicted to alcohol and drugs to have him comitted temporarily to a hospital for help to save his life, he has no job, no insurance and was living in his car until I paid for an apartment for temporary home.

Re: Getting Gardianship of an adult
I was on the staff of the Jefferson County Attorney's office for 18 years, responsible for handling commitment cases and, administratively, adult guardianship matters. It is the legal responsibility of your County attorney to assist people in your situation. The commitment and guardianship proceedings are separate legal actions. However, as in any legal matter, the county attorney's advice may be to the effect that there is insufficient evidence to make a case. Also, you may be able to find assistance by checking with the clerk of your local district court.
Best wishes.
