Legal Question in Health Care Law in Kentucky
being ''dismissed'' by a doctor
I told a dr. i was seeing that i wished to see another dr. in that practice. it was ok'd by both dr's and the staff. i called the office about a month later about a prescription and was told i was no longer allowed to see that dr. because i waited too long to make an initial appt. with the new dr. even though no one told me it was necessary. They told me I needed to find a new dr. I received a ''dismissal'' letter in the mail a few days later and called another dr. in a completely different office to make an appt. I was told by this office that I was flagged as dismissed by another dr. and that they couldn't see me, and that no one in the whole organization could see me. This is a problem because this medical org. pretty much has a monoply on healthcare in the area. So, can an entire org. deny me care because I didn't want to see one particular dr.? This doesn't seem like it should be legal to me.

While I do not pretend to know if this is "legal," you may wish to send a letter to the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure, or at least review the website: http://kbml.ky.gov/default.htm.
