Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Kentucky

What is probate and what steps do I need to take?

I was court appointed as guardian for my recently

deceased grandmother. She had no property and died

while receiving Medicaid benefits in a nursing home.

Her assets were less than $2000 dollars. Do I need to

submit anything to probate court? What do I do with the

money? What steps need to be taken when someone

dies with practically nothing? I know I have a final report

to present to Disability Court. Is that all I need to do?

Please accept my condolences on the death of your grandmother. Probate Court is set up to handle the property of deceased individuals. Before being able to answer your questions, it would be necessary to know if your grandmother had a will. All assets would need to be distributed to any creditors and then, if there are remaining assets, to anyone named in the will (if there is one) or to next of kin. You will have to file your final report with the Disability Court in any event.
