Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Louisiana
We were served papers for foreclosure. The auction is set Feb 2. Is it too late to file bankruptcy to save the house. We had retained a lawyer in town, but did not feel they were being upfront or honest so we let him go.

You have until the day and time of the sale to stop the foreclosure via bankruptcy. I would not advise that you wait until the day of sale.
