Legal Question in Consumer Law in Louisiana

identity theft

my personal information (social security number) was stolen by an employee at a local department store,is the departmant store liable in any way?Are there any provisons for identity theft? The employee asked me for my social security number to access my account,at the time of my purchase, and wrote down the number for her own personal use, and proceeded to apply for 5 accounts, successfully opening 1 account. She has been questioned and confessed to the identity theft.I am waiting for the D.A. to charge her. Apparently she has done it to other customers, and the store is aware of the incidents. She is no longer employed there. Any advice you can give would be appreciated.

Re: identity theft

It would be probably impossible to hold the store liable for a crime by the employee, but you may get some sort of compensation through the criminal process. Talk with the DA abou that option.
