Legal Question in Criminal Law in Louisiana
bad checks
I was charged with writing bad checks.I couldnt pay them back so they sentenced me to a year in jail.I served the time and now they still want me to pay them back.Is that right?

You cannot be punished criminally for not paying them (assuming its not a condition of your parole), but you can be sued in civil court in a lawsuit.

You cannot be put back in jail, but you still owe them the money. The jail was to discourage you from doing it again, not a re-payment of what you owed.
