How can a possession of firearm by convicted felon charge be beaten

If facts and evidence are that you are a convicted felon and are found with a firearm, your only hope is that the search which lead to the discovery of the firearm was unconstitutional in some way.
If the search was within the bounds of the law, your only hope is for your representative counsel to work out something with the prosecuting authority - State District Attorney's office or U.S Attorney.
The elements of the crime are clear and minimal which does not allow for many affirmative defenses.
