Legal Question in Immigration Law in Louisiana
My husband received a deportation letter that says he has to leave the country within 30 days. He has been arrested for abusing me 3 times. He has also been arrested on drug suspicion. He is now telling me that I have to go to Washington DC and tell immigration services that I have mental problems and I imagined the abuse. This is not true but he gets very angry when I tell him that I don't want to tell them that. We have two children and I don't want them to think that I am so mentally ill that I see and hear things that have not happened. I feel threatened by him to tell them this because of his extreme anger which usually leads to violence. What should I do?

Hello:
You should leave him and obtain a restraining order.
Sorry to hear about your situation. Apparently, your husband is a domestic abuser who abuses you in emotional, psychological and possibly other ways.
Your going to Washington DC is nonsense. His request is another form of abuse. You can call police if he keeps threatening you, and call local YWCA for help how to obtain a Protection Order (restraining order) against him. As a result, he can be removed from your residence and prohibited from even contacting you. Find local YWCA office at www.ywca.gov
