2 single people lease a home with a 1 year contract in new orleans. 1 person wants to leave the relationship and move out of state. What's recommendation regarding this lease?

Both tenants are still responsible for the lease. Even if one person moves out, he is still obligated to pay his share of the rent, as he legally obligated himself in the lease. Now, if the remaining tenant gets another person to move in and cover the rent, of course no rent would be due from the one who moved out.

Know that if the landlord has to sue for back rent on the lease for any reason (e.g., if the remaining tenant defaults on the rent or decides to leave and break the lease himself), the landlord will likely file suit (and win) against both tenants. The landlord has every right to demand rent and damages from each person whose name is on the lease, regardless of whether they decided not to stay.
