Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Louisiana

Lien on property

My GC had a $6000.00 septic system installed and did not pay the subcontractor, now they want to get paid and are threatening to put a lien on my property. What, if any, legal protection do I have? How can I get them not to put a lien on my property? Can I take action against my GC?

Re: Lien on property

You can sue your GC. The lien can be placed on your property unless you pay the sub. Hopefully you made sure the GC was bonded and insured. If you paid him enough to cover ALL bills, then he may have "misapplied" the funds, in which case he has committed a criminal act.
