Legal Question in Consumer Law in Maryland

Consumer

I bought a motorcycle from a private seller we both agreed to payment of 300 a month. However I was irrisponsible and sign the contract then realizing she added in finance charges and interest to the set amout which is 6,000 dollars total. I have 1 payment left on the bike and have been going back and forth with me for the interest fees and finance charges. now she is planning on sueing me for the additional cost. I told her that its illegal to charge the additional cost if she is a private seller and not a offical business. All I have to show is my reciepts, stupic contract I signed in court. Oh yea and the bike is soely titled in my name which she gave me the day I picked up the bike. What the worst that can happen?

Re: Consumer

It all depends on the contract. There is probably language in there regarding default. Also, you may have a counterclaim depending on the amount of interest charged on the unpaid balance. It may be worth spending 30 minutes to an hour with an attorney. Your right to recover under any potential counterclaim may exceed the outstanding balance.

Initial consultation fees are generally low (less than $200), and you have no obligation to retain the attorney as a result of the initial consultation. However, read any papers the attorney requires you to sign to be certain you are not obligating yourself to hire the attorney for the entire case.
