Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Maryland
Filing a Civil Judgement Suit
I work for a small secondary finance company with many debtors in the state of Maryland. If I was looking to find an attorney to file suits or to do mailings to debtors who have breached a contract, specifically what type of attorney would I be searching for, and do you have any referals.

We handle such matters in MD, DC and VA. You should look for a lawyer who is a member of the Commercial Law League of America, as we are.

You would want someone experienced in secondary finance collection. If you have a very capable attorney who works for you in another state, you might ask him or her if they have a recommendation for a Maryland attorney.
You could use a law directory to locate an attorney in Maryland. I generally use www.martindale.com. Search for a Maryland lawyer who lists a concentration in commercial law, creditors'rights, or collections.
You also need to consider the location of the attorney. I assume you would prefer dealing with one attorney, so you might want to examine the locations of your debtors and select an attorney who would be able to efficiently handle a large number of them.
My firm has represented several secondary lenders for a number of years, and we would be happy to be of assistance to you.William P. Baker,

Please contact me so that we may discuss your needs for demand collection and filing of suit on finance contracts. Often these matters involve bankruptcy hearings. A judgment is required to collect and garishment may be needed. Contact an attorney like myself for creditor representation. Often demand collection is effective. G. Joseph Holthaus (410) 799-9002.
