Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Maryland

I have an unpaid balance for an online college course that I withdrew from. Because I withdrew from the course before it began, I refuse to pay the bill. I was hospitalized and withdrew a few days later than the required date. I filed an appeal and it was denied. I refuse to pay the bill when no services were rendered. Now they are threatening to report me to collections. If I never pay this bill, how will my credit be affected? FYI - my score is around 700.

It will decrease your score if they report to collections or sue you for the debt.

Moreover, unless there are exceptions in the school's rules, you may be liable because you failed to withdraw before the deadline. This is one of the problems with online schools. You probably wouldn't have this problem with a real brick and mortar school.
