Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland
under 18 punishments
last year i got shop lifting at target and they banned me and sent a letter home to pay for everything. i made a stupid decision today and helped my friend shoplift at urban outfitters and luckily my friend was home so i gave the security her cell number and fooled them thinking she was my mom. they released me since my ''mom'' gave them permission to and told me i would be recieving a letter in the mail and i have to pay it or else i go to court. obviously my parents cant know or else they would kill me for shop lifting again. i also gave them my friends address and mines and said my parents were divorced. will they press charges against me for shoplifting a second time even though it was at target? and will my parents ever find out? does urban outfitters have any way of knowing that my friend, knowing her address, really isnt my mother and therefore press even more charges?

Re: under 18 punishments
You could have been charged the first time for shop lifting. So, yes, you could be charged with shop lifting this time as well. It's not clear by your letter whether Target made a complaint with the police, but assuming they did, you can be charged with BOTH. You don't say how old you are, obviously there is a difference between a minor who is 12 and one that is 16. If the only thing that happens to you is that your parents find out consider it good luck, because you could end up with a record, haivng to meet with a probation officer regularly or worse, going to jail.
