Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland
In 2009, after work one night a friend and I went to Walmart, when we were leaving the store a man who worked there stopped us and said to come with him. I was in shock and had no idea what was going on. Turns out the friend I was with had stolen makeup products while we were there. We both were searched, she gave up what she had taken and I had nothing on me, I had never stolen before. She was 17 and I had just turned 18, we were both taken to the police station and she was let go, I had to wait at least 30 minutes before they let me go. Nothing was said about a court date and I recieved nothing in the mail about a court date either. But, when I was applying for a job it came up on my backgrouns check and I am having a hard time getting a job. I don't know why this would be on my record, and I don't know what to do about this. Any advice would help, thank you so much for your time.

You need to file a motion to expunge the police record if charges were never filed, or if charges were filed and were dismissed, then file an expungement for the court and police record.
In order to advise you about whether and how to pursue expungement would require additional information about you that you should not disclose in a public forum, such as this. I offer a free and confidential initial consultation.
