Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland
This is more of asking for advice. I'm not sure what to do right now. I have been blackmailed because of my poor judgement of giving out my name so they can find me on facebook. The person threatened me that he/she'll send the brief cyber i had to all my friends on facebook which will obviously be embarassing to me. The person has emailed me saying that I need to hand over $500 or else the conversation will be sent to all my friends and ruin my life. Ruining my life is a little exaggerated probably but I still would prefer that I can do something to stop him/her from sending it out. I'm not sure if I should take a stab at it and say that it's a bluff. Right now I am standing my ground and not responding to any emails or giving in to the money offer. I know what the person is doing is illegal. However, I'm not sure if I should hire a lawyer because it could be expensive and not sure if it's worth all that trouble. If I can sue the person for a good amount, then I might consider it. What should I do?
