Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland
My car was search a few nights ago by the Harford County cops in MD and I was found to be in possession of "one pipe and one marijuana cigarette", but was told that I was free to go and would be sent further information in the mail after "analysis". What kind of charges am I looking at, and is there anything I can do to lessen them?

You are probably going to face charges of possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. However, if other contraband substances were recovered, you might be charged with possessing them too. If the police believe there was evidence of dealing, you might face distribution or possession with intent to distribute.
Defenses and mitigation might apply to your case. Criminal defense lawyers explore those for you. They advise you what the law is, what works, and what does not, based on their experience.
Certainly, do not incur any more charges. Be careful whose company you keep. Perhaps have a drug evaluation and follow any treatment recommendation. Have a confidential consultation with a lawyer, who practices criminal defense. Do not use public forum, such as this for consultation, because the state might be able to use what you write against you. My initial consultation is free.
The best way to lessen your exposure is to begin your defense now. Talk to a criminal trial lawyer who practices in Harford County (like myself) who can lay out a defensive strategy.
