How can I check for free if there is an outstanding
warrant for me in the state of Maryland

Either try http://casesearch.courts.state.md.us or call the Court Clerk in the jurisdiction in which you believe the warrant exists. You can also try and call the warrant office at the Police or Sheriff's departments.

CaseSearch will reflect bench warrants for failure to appear in court. However, unserved arrest warrants for new charges are not reflected there. The usual response from the police is something to the effect of: "Why don't you come in so they can talk to you about it?" If you do, make sure that you make arrangements for someone to possibly post your bail.
