Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland
I have a client who sells consigned antiques and ran into major cash flow problems. He sold some of the consigned items and didn't pay the owner of the items. He knows he is monetarily obligated to pay. Is he criminally liable-I mean can he be charged with stealing?

Possibly. Maryland has a consolidated theft statute, which means it covers more than strictly traditional theft offenses. Whether your client's conduct would violate it would depend on exactly what he did. Regardless the conduct may violate other laws, such as fraud. I offer a free and confidential initial consultation.
