Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland
If two co-defendants have been convicted of the same crime and have served over 30 years together and, subsequently, after uncovered evidence has been admitted in one trial and not the other resulting in the release of one co-defendnat.
Why is one man still in prison, while his co-defendant has been released if they are convicted of the same crime?

Perhaps one man pursued the issue by postconviction proceedings, and the other did not. In court no one rides another' coattail. It's more like every man for himself. Also, it is possible that new evidence only excluded one of the defendants as a perpetrator.
