Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland
I have a friend who is a convicted sex offender in Maryland. He has stated that at the time of sentencing some 15 years ago now the judge included 5 years of having to register every so many months with the local sheriff's office. How does he go about having that requirement lifted as it did not do so automatically after the first 5 years following his release?

Unfortunately, the legislature has made changes to the law recently that require people to register, even if the same people did not previously have to register or no longer had to do so. Your friend should find out whether and how this affects him, which depends on the exact nature of the conviction and whether new laws apply to it.
