Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland
A friend is serving 22 weekends in jail for a DUI. He completed 12 of the 22 weekends uninterrupted. This past weekend he did not report to jail. What can he do right now to lessen any potential penalties against him? What are the possible repercussions? He had been doing well with following probation but has recently had personal problems and knows his decision to not report this past weekend was of very poor judgment.

He can try to resume, but the jail might not accept him. He should continue all of the other conditions and be prepared to surrender, if a warrant is issued. He might have mitigation to present at another sentencing, but probably no defense to either violating probation or escape.
