Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland
i was in the hospital and unable to attend court due to a $44 check to a supermarket and now have a bench warrant out on me. I took a letter along with my hospital papers to the judge asking for the warrant to be lifted but I did this on Friday and not sure if the judge got it in time. Can the police enter my home to get me if my husband tells them I am not here?
thank you.

If the police have a warrant for your arrest, they may enter and arrest you, but they may not search the house for contraband. No one should lie, because that may result in criminal charges. Check Maryland Judiciary CaseSearch to find out whether your case status has changed from warrant to active. Once it has, then carry the court order recalling the warrant on you, because it takes time for the separate police databases to update. The police may arrest a person if the police records show a warrant. Hopefully, a copy of the court's order to recall would persuade an officer not to do that. If the judge will not recall the warrant, then find out what the bail is and make arrangements to surrender.
