Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

Is This Identify Theft?

Hello, please answer my question.

Description of the case: Last year, I was signing up for book club membership online. I used a computer program(Gator) to help me to fill out the form automaticly. In this computer program, I have change my last name to something else, as a way to proect myself online.

And I forget to change the last name back to my true last name. So I have been using a third person name for the membership. Also, I have used this name to order books, and I have paid for everything that I have ordered from the book club. At the beginnning, I was thinking, the first names are the same, only the last names are different, so I didn't call the book club to tell them to chanage my last name.

So I would like to know will I get into any trouble with this incident? Thank you very much!

Re: Is This Identify Theft?

It is not identity theft but likely fraudulent misrepresentation. Pay the account in full and close it, then open another if you want to continue business with the entity. Contact a lawyer should you require legal assistance. Other options are available to you and you should speak with an attorney.
