Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

i was with some idiot friends couple of weeks ago and they went out and stole something over 1000 dollars unknown to me the next morning in my truck (i wasnt even driving) they went to go pick it up. i thought they were just driving home. Well they got caught with it and are charged. how am i getting charged with accompolice when i didnt even know they were doing this i had no idea until right up until the cops came

Were you not even in the truck? If not, this case may be very difficult to prove. And even if you were, the State has to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you were aware of the items and that they were stolen. If you were, then you are guilty of theft under the theory of possession of stolen property.

Anyone may be accused of a crime regardless of whether he or she violated the law. If you were not present when your friends used your truck to break the law, then the state will have to prove that you loaned them your truck with the knowledge of their plans.
