Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

i made a serious mistake

my brother and i stole 3 ipods from our job. We were told that since we are first time offenders if we pay the restitution and return the merchandise what do you think the judge will decide?? will we do jail time?

I would not speak with anyone who is not a lawyer about what you did or did not do, because your statements to anyone else can be used against you. Also, I would not write anything in this forum, because it is not confidential.

Nor would I listen to advice from anyone who is not a lawyer. I would not recommend that you sign anything or agree to do anything.

Only the judge can decide what sentence to impose, and it could include imprisonment. Even if you do not receive jail, having criminal record could cause you difficulty getting a job, a loan, or an apartment.

Each of you should consult your own lawyer, because it would be a conflict of interest for one lawyer to advice both of you.
