Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

do i have to obey a subpoena that was mailed as if it was hand delivered by the Sheriffs? it was my understanding that subpoenas could ONLY be hand served. what is the odds an assault case would be dropped if the person who was assaulted doesn't appear and this is the 3rd time the State is trying the case???

If you have knowledge of a court date and fail to appear, then the court might put you in jail for 5 months and 29 days for contempt. The method of service is not an issue. Even if it were, you might be detained in jail by body attachment until the court held a hearing in which to sort it all out.

Odds do not matter, court decisions do.
